Project Updates
Message from the Village of Zenon Park
January 2011
Congratulations! We have raised over $100,000 towards our goal. We still need to raise another $55,000 in order to utilize the grant. We need your help! If you haven’t yet made your donation but wish to then please present it to the Village office and an official tax receipt will be issued.
The progression at the arena has been good, as work on the second level has started. It will continue and shall be completed before March 31st. The curling rink will remain closed for this season and will reopen for the 2011-2012 season with upgrades completed. Once again the Community Partners committee has organized the annual Heritage Bonspiel so if you are a curler I urge you to enter your team.
I would like to once again thank all of the volunteers that have donated their time and talents to this project. I would also like to thank everyone that has donated towards the RINC fund.
Thank you,
Cory Clapson
Mayor of Zenon Park

Cory Clapson
Maire de Zenon Park
Dear community members:
The newly formed RINC committee held a meeting on November 10, 2010 in which huge steps were accomplished towards the project. The mood was positive and energetic.
During this meeting the project budget was brought near completion and will be finalized upon submission of a few quotes. Two motions were passed, the first to grant the Skating Arena’s Low-E ceiling installation contract and the second to hire a project manager.
Due to the scale of this project, daily attention is necessary. For this reason the committee agreed on the importance of a project manager in order to decrease volunteer burnout and ensure the success of the project. The project manager will be responsible for the planning and preparation of construction schedules which would include the coordination of contractors and volunteers. The project manager will report to the project committee.
Progress has been made in the Skating Arena’s upgrades. Up to this point a new boiler has been installed and the zamboni room roof has been repaired. Also pilings and forms have been poured in order to repair the heaving boards and regulation height plexi glass is being installed. This progress is due to the many volunteer hours. Thank you to the volunteers.
The committee will continue to meet weekly and I will update the community on the progress of this project.
Regards,
Cory Clapson

Dear community members:
A public meeting was held at the Community Partners office on November 1, 2010 regarding the Recreational Infrastructure Canada RInC Program Grant.
After much discussion and many questions the consensus was to form a new committee to oversee the procedures of renovations and retro fits to the recreational facilities.
The following committee was formed:
Colette Pelchat – Village Gilbert Daoust – Facilities
Maurice Lapointe – Community Albert Fortier – Finance Funding
Brian Wassill – Curling Rink Facility Cory Clapson – Village
Ron Wassill – Seniors Lois Pinsent – Youth
Jason Hudon – Arena Facility Mark Ollinger – Community Partners
The motion was made and carried “that The Project Committee follows the mandate from the public meeting dated November 1, 2010, to establish the priorities of the project, the skating rink being the first priority and the curling rink being the second priority to upgrade.”
The meeting was very positive and is the first step to start moving forward. I would like thank all who attended. We will need further help from the community in order for this project to be completed by the March 31, 2011 deadline.
We will be canvassing for donations as we need to raise more funds. As a community we have raised $73,350 so far. In order to utilize the full grant money we will need to raise $156,666 total.
We will also be asking for volunteers and for expert advice from many community members that have been involved in these facilities.
Once again thank you to all who attended and to the newly formed committee members. We will keep the community updated as the project progresses. If you have any questions please contact the Community Partners office.
Regards,
Cory Clapson
